Field Experiences

Ongoing and sustained field experiences are a crucial part of the Social Studies licensure program.

Major and Minor Requirements

Refer to the Social Science Major and Secondary Education Advising Sheet for specific course requirements. This advising sheet does not include required common curriculum requirements.

Program Admission

You will apply to be accepted to the Social Studies Education Program while in EDUC 310: Educational Psychology. Refer to major application procedures and requirements prior to enrolling in EDUC 310.

Program Licensing Requirements

Professional Educator Standards and Licensing Board requires all students seeking Social Studies licensure in Minnesota to successfully complete the following assessments:

  • Secondary History/Social Studies edTPA. This assessment is completed during student teaching. The cost of this assessment to students is $300. It is paid directly to Pearson.
  • MTLE Examinations. Students typically take these exams near the end of the semester prior to student teaching. Registration and payment for exams is handled through Pearson.
